Ever feel like everything is just… too much?, I know I face this daily.
I want to make progress on creating content, working in my business, or just life, but my brain is juggling 47 tabs and none of them are helping.
If you relate, this is a sign it’s time to pause, breathe, and simplify.
This isn’t about doing less just to do less. It’s about reducing overwhelm, getting focused, and creating uncomplicated productivity that actually works.
Here’s how I’m using 5 simple, repeatable steps to simplify my life. I invite you to try!
1. Name what’s overwhelming you
Overwhelm thrives in vagueness.
So let’s get specific.
Ask yourself: What exactly feels complicated right now?
Write it down as if you’re texting a friend. Maybe it’s “figuring out what to post this week” or “deciding which tool to use for my new project.”
When you name it, you take its power away. You stop spiraling and you’re starting to declutter your mind.
2. Shrink the task
Big = scary.
Small = doable.
Instead of “build my website,” try “write a rough draft of my About page.” (Note, that’s not even “Create my About page”, it’s just a draft. Microsteps.)
Instead of “organize files on my computer,” start with “declutter one folder.”
This is decision-making made easier: reduce the task to the smallest next move.
That’s how you get unstuck and stay in motion.
3. Cut what doesn’t matter
Simplifying your life often means subtracting, not adding.
Ask yourself: What can I let go of?
Extra features?
Over-researching?
Trying to make it perfect?
This step is about mental decluttering and getting honest about what’s actually essential.
Spoiler: it’s usually less than you think.
4. Ask for perspective
This is the one I have the most trouble with. When your brain is swirling, don’t go it alone.
Ask a friend, a coach, a therapist, or even ChatGPT to help you untangle it. Sometimes a 60-second voice note or a one-line reply is all it takes to shift from chaos to clarity.
Getting outside input is one of the fastest ways to reduce overthinking and find your way forward.
5. Do the next thing
Not the right thing. Not the everything.
Just the next thing.
Simplifying your life is about making a move, no matter how tiny. It’s not about having a perfect plan.
Just one small action can break the overwhelm and reset your momentum.
Congratulations! You’ve now uncomplicated your productivity
If you’re wondering how to simplify your life, here’s your reminder: it doesn’t have to be dramatic. You just need space to think clearly and take one step at a time.
Name it. Shrink it. Strip it down. Get input. Do one thing.
That’s it. That’s the magic!
These 5 steps will help you stop overthinking and clear the mental clutter that gets in your way if you’re building a business, managing your household, or just trying to finish a project.
